Limerick Chamber has today (21/05/2013) welcomed the appointment of Neil Pakey as CEO of Shannon Airport.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Maria Kelly, Limerick Chamber CEO, said, “Shannon airport is facing a challenging period and needs someone strong at the helm. Mr Pakey has a wealth of experience from the aviation industry and proven track record in delivering airport passenger growth having increased passenger numbers at Liverpool airport five-fold.”
“But turning around declining passenger numbers is only one facet of this challenging role. The new CEO will have responsibility to drive a new business model for the airport by also expanding and diversifying the business base into non-aeronautical revenues, reflecting best practice in successful international airports.”
“Since 1996 Limerick Chamber sought independence for the airport. Shannon Airport is a key national asset serving the Limerick Region and plays a vital role in the maintenance and enhancement of our economic development. Now that its operational function is fully independent with a new CEO at the helm, it needs to develop valuable routes to support trade and make rapid progression towards an innovative, profitable entity.”
“Limerick Chamber looks forwarding to working with Mr Pakey and actively supporting our Airports future as it re-establishes itself as a key driver of economic development and growth for the region and along the entire Western seaboard,” Ms Kelly concluded.
