Move Mid-West campaign to be launched to encourage people to support recruitment drive on foot of unprecedented run of investment

The economic upswing being enjoyed in the Mid West will tonight see the launch of a new website/campaign to support FDI and indigenous companies fill posts created.

Limerick Chamber – supported by J&J, BD, Analog, FirstData, Northern Trust – will on Thursday night launch the first ever campaign of its kind for the region with an event in Dublin highlighting the availability of tech jobs, in particular, in the Mid West region.

The ‘Let’s Talk Tech’ event, with Newstalk tech expert Jess Kelly as MC, at Fallon & Byrne, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 will also be used to formally launch the ‘Movemidwest.ie’ website, which will be one of the key tools used for raising awareness of not just the quality jobs but the quality of life in the region.

Some 1,012 vacancies currently exist in the Mid West, with over 630 of these in STEM professions –  IT, Engineering, Pharma/ Science.

A major attraction for the region also is the affordability and available of homes.  Currently there are in excess of 20 estates under construction across the region, with the average price in Limerick at €201,301 in Q1 of this year, compared to Dublin’s €383,315, Galway at €300,547 and Cork at €282,518.

Launching the campaign, Limerick Chamber CEO Dee Ryan said that it is aimed at plugging skill shortages and also to raise awareness of the quality of life available across the region.

“Move Mid-West is, effectively, a campaign to support efforts by multi-national and indigenous Irish companies to attract talent into the region.  We have seen an unprecedented 15,000 jobs created in the past five years or so.  We are hugely grateful to all those companies responsible for this, whether that’s big global brands or growing domestic ones, and in Limerick Chamber our side of the deal is to make sure that we support those employers in every way we can to get the best possible return from their commitment to the area.

“The Mid West has always been a sought-after area to live but up until recent years, we did not have the jobs to enable us go out and shout like this. But such has been the wave of inward investment, we can now proudly do so, which is exactly what this campaign is about.”

The mix, Ms Ryan said, of quality jobs and quality and affordable lifestyle is making the Mid West a ‘go-to’ region for people to set up in.  “All in, we believe we have the most attractive region in the country.  All three counties, with Limerick city at the centre, are amongst the most affordable in the country to live in.  Add to that, the availability of housing, the culture of the region, sports facilities, the fact that we have the likes of the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, incredible beaches and the River Shannon here and that we are a gateway to the likes of Kerry and Galway/Connemara and there’s any number of compelling reasons for people to come here to live, work and play.

“On top of all that, in Shannon Airport we have one of only two international airports in the country with direct routes to all three markets, the US, Europe and UK so not alone is it a great place to base yourself in, it is also so accessible. We’ve got motorways also to Galway and Dublin, with an M20 to Cork on the way.”
