Limerick Chamber has today (31st July) expressed disappointment that progression of the Northern Distributor road has been stalled and has called on those involved to review all options to ensure this distributor route is delivered as soon as possible.
Speaking about the route Chamber CEO Dr. James Ring said “adequate infrastructure is vital in enabling business to be conducted. The need for this road is clearly identified in a number of policy recommendations including ‘The Limerick Planning, Land Use and Transportation Study’ for Greater Limerick prepared by Clare County Council, Tipperary North County Council and Limerick City and County Councils; The Fitzgerald Report (April 2007) which recommended that a distributor road to the north of Limerick City be progressed to develop economic activity and end the isolation of regeneration areas; and several local and county development plans.
“Adequate infrastructure allows for economic growth and business expansion, while enabling residents to get from their homes to schools, work, shopping or cultural activities in the city without encountering crippling bottlenecks. The infrastructure that currently exists is inadequate and the need for this route is clearly identified. The Local Authority and Councillors in Limerick need to prioritise the delivery of this route as a matter of urgency” concluded Dr. Ring.
