Launch of new-look guide captures the essence of Limerick region in lead up to City of Culture 2014

Limerick’s vibrant offering in the arts, culture, heritage, fine dining and its comprehensive range in shopping and activities is vividly portrayed in the the latest edition of The Best of Ireland Series, Limerick: Culture Comes Alive.

This information guide is part of a collection which also includes Kilkenny, Dundalk and Adare. The guide is supported by Limerick Marketing Company, Limerick Chamber and Limerick City Business Association and was launched this week.

Speaking about the launch of the Limerick Guide, Helen O’Donnell, Chair of Limerick City Business Association said: “In the lead up to our designation as National City of Culture it is vital that we promote our city and region in the best possible light. The Limerick Guide has really captured the essence of what we can offer not only to tourists but to stakeholders based closer to home.

“Editor of the publication, Rachael Finucane and the team at Southern marketing and media consultancy have created a document to be proud of and I hope the content and message contained within is spread far and wide”, she added.

Ms. Finucane, says the guide aims to capture all that is unique and special about Limerick.

“Limerick has an outstanding tourism offering and we wanted to gather the information together in one place. The upcoming City of Culture designation in 2014 is very exciting and it gives us an opportunity to show all that the city and county has to offer, not just to visitors but to natives,” she said.

“This guide is a part of the effort to place Limerick front and centre as a ‘must-go’ destination. I would like to thank our supporters, contributors and our editorial/design team, who made the Limerick Guide possible,” Ms. Finucane added.

Since its inception over a year ago, the Limerick Guide has been updated twice and there has been an excellent response from business owners and visitors.

Eoghan Prendergast, Manager of the Limerick Marketing Company said the new look guide is an example of the quality of marketing material we can expect from our city going forward.

“This guide shows both through editorial and imagery the quality of our tourism, shopping and entertainment offer. The magazine-style guide is written with visitors and locals in mind and provides a comprehensive information handbook on Limerick in terms of everything from sightseeing to socialising, activities to hospitality—everything a visitor needs to relax and enjoy themselves in the Limerick region. The Limerick Guide is a publication that captures all we should be proud of in a compact user-friendly format and we have already got a very good reaction at trade shows to it, as part of our efforts to promote Limerick”, he said.

The Limerick Guide also focuses on telling the story of Limerick – tales of history and heritage, of people and places, of what has happened and what there is to do.

The guide is available now and will be distributed through hotels, guesthouses, tourist offices, transport hubs and other outlets across the city and county.
