Thursday 24th February 2022: Limerick Chamber has this afternoon welcomed Government’s announcement on the formation of a Shannon Estuary Taskforce and the fast timeline for turnaround of a report with measurable actions that support industry development in the region.
“Limerick Chamber has been engaging with Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Government TD’s on this matter for some time, highlighting its importance to business. We welcome progress on establishing a Shannon Estuary Taskforce and the Tánaiste’s intent for the work of the group to move at pace.
The Mid West business community believes a Taskforce should in particularfocus on opportunities for the development of renewable energy, utilising our twin natural assets of a deep-water harbour at Foynes and an abundance of wind on the Atlantic coast.
We also see opportunities for the further development of Limerick’s hospitality sector to build on the popularity of the Wild Atlantic Way and the newly opened Limerick Greenway.
We look forward to engaging further with Government on this important grouping whose output is expected to support the development of industry and jobs in the region.” said Limerick Chamber CEO Dee Ryan

Notes; Limerick Chamber is the largest business representative group in the Mid West with 400 member organisations supporting approximately 50,000 jobs. Limerick Chamber is mixed sector and is focused on improving the operating environment for all businesses in the Mid West to maximise their potential.
Previously Limerick Chamber expressed disappointment at the withdrawal of Equinor from a joint venture with the ESB citing the slow pace of Government support for the development of off-shore renewable energy as a factor in their decision to quit the project and invest elsewhere.
