The CEO of Limerick Chamber has said that the latest government funding towards the city and county – a grant of €2,279,073 to enhance the development of the ground-breaking Digital Collaboration Centre (DCC) – confirms the new confidence that abounds here.
The grant, announced yesterday by Minister Heather Humphries to create the first of its kind Digital Collaboration Centre in Ireland, brings to €15.6 million the total funding granted under government programmes to Limerick in a ten-day period.
First there was the €7.1m in total funding for three major projects across County Limerick under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund for three projects – the Great Southern Greenway, Glenbrohane Local Hub and Murroe Community Hub.
A further €6.2million followed days later for projects in the Limerick Metropolitan Area, for the Opera Site, O’Connell Street Redevelopment, Limerick’s Living Georgian City, development of world class waterfront project and a regional digital collaboration and virtual reality centre.
Welcoming the latest announcement, Limerick Chamber CEO Dee Ryan said: “The recent injection of much needed and deserved funds is another vote of confidence in Limerick. This type of funding would not be made available were it not for the enormous progress already made in the city and the fact that we are working to a very coherent plan, Limerick 2030 – An Economic and Spatial Plan.
“The collective funding announced over the past fortnight will help deliver transformative projects that will help deliver ongoing growth and innovation in Limerick. The great thing about these projects is that there is an excellent mix of urban and rural. We have great momentum developed in Limerick and this adds to it. It’s a great time for the city and county and we need to build on this.”
