Limerick Proves Its Attractiveness to Global Investors

Limerick and Mid-West positioned to be Ireland’s next BioPharma Hub

18 December 2013: Limerick Chamber has welcomed today’s announcement that, subject to planning permission, Regeneron plans to establish a major operation in Limerick with the creation of 300 jobs plus an estimated 600 temporary construction jobs for local contractors.

Commenting on the announcement, Limerick Chamber CEO, Maria Kelly, said “This is a hugely significant announcement for Limerick and the region and not just in terms of providing much needed jobs.  It aligns with the recent Limerick 2030 Economic and Spatial Plan and reflects the attractiveness of Limerick as a competitive international location for the pharmaceutical sector and leading global investors.  Limerick is a key competitive location for investment and job creation due to its connectivity, and educated, skilled and flexible workforce.  I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work being done by IDA Ireland to profile the excellence of this region.”

“We now have the foundations of a strong cluster potential for the Limerick and mid-west area.  Regeneron joins a healthy BioPharma sector in the region and with the €40 million investment in the Synthesis & Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre in UL announced earlier this year, this increases the attractiveness of Limerick as a global hub for pharmaceutical process innovation and advanced manufacturing, which will be of benefit to local businesses,” she concluded.
