Local Enterprise Offices Must Focus on Filling Gaps in Service Delivery

Limerick Chamber has welcomed the announcement that Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) are to be up and running from April but stressed that they must work to fill current gaps in service delivery in order to provide enhanced support for business.

Maria Kelly, Limerick Chamber Chief Executive, said “The Taoiseach has announced that 2014 will be the ‘Year for Jobs’. This is welcome if we are to tackle our current high level of unemployment. However, the best way for LEOs to support this ambition is by focussing on their core remit of supporting both new and rapidly expanding businesses, which are where most jobs are created. It is vital that there is no duplication of services already provided by the private sector if we are to support job creation.”

“It is also important that businesses are made fully aware of what LEOs are to offer and how they can best use their services. These ‘first-stop-shops’ must be placed in a visible, accessible location within the Local Authority to raise their profile,” she concluded.
