Tom O’Connor

Managing Director & Co-Founder
Conack Construction

Operating in construction places me at the intersection of economic policy, infrastructure delivery, and regional competitiveness. Every decision on planning certainty, housing supply, transport connectivity, and skills availability directly impacts project viability, business confidence, and economic momentum. This lived experience reinforces my belief that economic strategy must be grounded in the realities of delivery and long-term outcomes.

I have had the privilege of building a Limerick-based construction business (Conack) from the ground up — starting during a very uncertain economic period in 2008 and growing it into a multi-million-euro company employing over 250 people across the country, an estimated turnover of circa 250 million in 2026, and with a head office firmly based here in the Mid-West. Growth has been underpinned by disciplined investment in people, safety, productivity, and quality delivery, and shaped by our deep commitment to this region both now and for many years to come.

The priorities set out by Limerick Chamber — from accelerated investment in sustainable infrastructure and transport networks to unlocking housing supply and advancing energy security — are both timely and vital if the Mid-West, in particular Limerick, is to compete for talent, investment, and enterprise growth in order to unlock regional potential.

I believe the Chair and board of the Chamber should be informed by voices that combine strategic economic insight with practical delivery experience.

My time as the Chairperson of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), including winner of EY (established) – entrepreneur of the year, coupled with day-to-day engagement in planning, supply chains, skills development, and regional project delivery, gives me a perspective rooted in both macro-economic impact and operational reality.

If nominated to the Limerick Chamber board, I would bring a commitment to driving balanced, sustainable growth born out of experience. I will champion initiatives that support infrastructure certainty and empower SMEs — ensuring the Mid-West thrives.
