Budget 2015: Changes to Personal Tax Regime Necessary for Business

Limerick Chamber, the region’s leading business representative and lobbying group, has backed calls for Budget 2015 to deliver changes in the personal tax regime.

Speaking about their Pre-Budget Campaign, Limerick Chamber Interim CEO Órlaith Borthwick said, “We welcome current indications that Budget 2015 will deliver personal tax changes. The increased direct and indirect tax burden which has been placed on working people in the last number of years is unsustainable if government wants to inject money back into the economy and move toward more sustainable long term GDP growth.

“While our priority and focus is to represent the voice of business, we feel that changes to personal tax rates will benefit our members. With higher levels of disposable income people will demand more goods and services from businesses, which will benefit business at all ends of the supply chain spectrum. This will create additional jobs and reduce demands on exchequer funding; it’s a win-win.

“If government is serious about igniting growth back into the economy at both a local and national level then tax bands and rates need to be revised and the USC needs a radical overhaul,” concluded Dr Borthwick.

Working with their members, Limerick Chamber developed a comprehensive Pre-Budget submission and has used the document to lobby various Ministers and government officials to deliver a suite of changes which support economic growth and reap cost competitive measures for their members.
