A landmark collaboration between Limerick Chamber of Commerce, the Limerick Post, and the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has been recognised nationally, with the trio winning ‘Event of the Year’ at the prestigious Chambers Ireland Awards 2025. 48 projects were shortlisted across 8 categories.
The award celebrates the first-ever public debate for the directly elected Mayor of Limerick, held in 2024. This milestone event brought together political candidates, media, academia, business leaders, and citizens from across the region, both in person and online with over 1,000 attendees online and in person. Subsequently the live stream recording attracted almost 10,000 views on YouTube.
The debate, hosted at the TUS Millennium Theatre and livestreamed to a wide audience, provided a unique platform for candidates to engage directly with the public on the issues shaping Limerick’s future. The event was praised for its civic impact, high production standards, inclusivity, and reach.
The three organisations extend their sincere thanks to Chambers Ireland for the recognition, and warmly acknowledge all the candidates who participated, as well as everyone who attended — whether in the auditorium or tuning in from home.
“This award is a testament to what collaboration can achieve. Limerick Chamber saw an opportunity to elevate democratic engagement in Limerick, and we’re proud to have delivered a professional, impactful event that set a new standard. We’re grateful to Chambers Ireland for recognising this achievement for the region and our partners at the Limerick Post and TUS. For me, this event was a standout example of how the voice of businesses can convene, inform and lead in moments that matter” said Michelle Gallagher, CEO of Limerick Chamber.
“At the Limerick Post, our mission is to serve the public interest. It was a privilege to help facilitate such a vital conversation for our community. We thank all the candidates and attendees for making this a night to remember,” said Will Ryan, Proprietor of the Limerick Post.
“Hosting this historic debate at TUS aligned perfectly with our values of civic responsibility and regional leadership. It was a pleasure to support such a meaningful event. We look forward to future collaborations that strengthen our region,” said Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of TUS.
The partners hope this successful collaboration inspires similar initiatives across the country, reinforcing the importance of civic dialogue and regional cooperation.
