8 September 2015:  Limerick Chamber has welcomed the commencement of the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 which introduces the requirement for lobbyists to record and register their activities with the Standards in Public Office Commission.

Speaking about the Act, Dr. Órlaith Borthwick, Director of Policy, Limerick Chamber said: “Limerick Chamber welcomes the legislation and the move towards increased openness and transparency in the way public policy is influenced in Ireland. We see the new requirements as an opportunity to show the constructive and productive dialogue that Limerick Chamber regularly engages in with public officials and elected representatives around the country.”

“As the leading business representative body in the Mid-West, Limerick Chamber has always conducted and engaged in extensive lobbying activity on behalf of our members. We have taken steps to ensure we are registered and fully compliant with the requirements of the Act so that we can continue to undertake this critical support for our members” continued Dr. Borthwick.

“It’s important for our members to know that all lobbying activity undertaken by Limerick Chamber on their behalf will be returned and filed by Limerick Chamber. The details of members who we are representing will not be disclosed.

“The new legislation is a tool that promotes more open and transparent conversations with public officials. We urge companies who are involved in direct lobbying to understand the implications of the Act and ensure they are fully compliant.  Limerick Chamber is here to offer advice and assist our members with any queries” concluded Dr. Borthwick.
