Mid-West to hear how it can become an epicentre of the renewable energy revolution as it hosts the highly anticipated Energy on the Estuary Series

Limerick Chamber announce their third instalment of their highly popular Energy on the Estuary Series, proudly sponsored by SSE.  This event will focus on “Powering the Future” by bringing Mid-West based industry leaders together to share their insights, learnings and plans for the future.

This landmark event will take place with hosting partners the Technological University of the Shannon at their brand new state of the art engineering campus in Coonagh, Limerick on Thursday the 5th of September at 11:30am.

As the world faces the need to transition to sustainable energy solutions, this summit promises to be a game-changer, igniting action and collaboration on a scale never seen before in the Mid-West. The event is expected to attract significant interest, including government officials, industry pioneers, environmental professionals, members of the public and academic experts, all united by a shared vision: to accelerate the shift toward a clean, green, and resilient energy future across the Mid-West.

This event aims to break down a vision of what developments are planned across the Mid-West, Limerick and North Kerry from both a supply and demand perspective. A first of its kind event for Limerick.

Audience members will hear from a dynamic panel of speakers engaging in thought provoking conversations in how plans for renewable energy and sustainability can be advanced across the region and the many positive spillover impacts these projects have.

Attendees will also be provided with best in class networking opportunities, bringing together like-minded professionals and potential future partners in a vibrant, inclusive environment designed to foster partnerships and innovative projects.

Noel Gavin, President of Limerick Chamber, said:

“ Ireland is uniquely positioned to lead the charge in renewable energy, boasting abundant natural resources and a strong commitment to sustainability. The Energy on the Estuary series  not only highlight’s the nation’s progress but also inspire actionable strategies to overcome current challenges and capitalise on future opportunities.

Attendees will leave equipped with the knowledge, connections, and motivation to drive meaningful change in their own communities and beyond. Of course, we are delighted to partner with a world leader in this space, SSE. Who over the last number of years have shown their dedication to the Mid-West. This is a real opportunity for all of us in the region, to listen, engage and learn from these industry leaders”

Marian Tory, SSE’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Ireland said:

“SSE has a longstanding presence in the Limerick and wider Mid-West region. Through our Tournafulla, Rathcahill, Dromada, Athea and Lenamore wind farms across West Limerick and North Kerry we make almost €250,000 per year available for community activities, while our Knockastanna wind farm in East Limerick makes over €10,000 per year available. These SSE windfarms generate enough energy in the region to power nearly 85,000 homes.

We have exciting plans for our Tarbert site too, supporting Ireland’s security of supply and with further plans to develop a new power station that would run on sustainable biofuels with the potential to convert to hydrogen.

And through SSE Airtricity we are always working to bring new products and services to home and business customers in the region and across the island.

This event marks a pivotal moment in Ireland’s energy journey, symbolising the region’s unwavering dedication to becoming a leader in Ireland’s transition to net zero and in meeting the State’s future energy needs. As the world watches, Ireland is ready to set a powerful example, demonstrating how nations, industry and community can work together to create a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future for all.“

Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of TUS, said:

“TUS believes in the transformative potential of offshore wind development through the Shannon Estuary, and the impact this can have not just for this region, not just for the state but well beyond.

Indeed, the development of the Shannon Estuary has the clear prospect of whole new industries being spawned, as well as powering homes and businesses. Central in realising this potential is co-operation and collaboration between business, industry, communities and the government.  We are delighted that this event is one of the first that we host on our new state-of-the-art Coonagh Campus, and we look forward to working further to develop the potential of the Shannon Estuary.”
