Des O’Malley was presented with the Limerick Chamber President’s Award at the Limerick Chamber President’s Dinner in the Limerick Strand Hotel last night (21/11/14).
Announcing the award, Cathal Treacy, President, Limerick Chamber said, “I am delighted to honour a man who has been one of the most influential figures in Irish public life over the past three decades. While recent headlines are dominated by his biography ‘Conduct Unbecoming’, this Limerick native’s ‘conduct becoming’ has left a lasting legacy on the industrial landscape of our great region. He has been one of the most significant political figures whom Limerick has produced since independence.”
“As Minister for Industry and Commerce, Des O’Malley played a key role in bringing job-creating foreign investment into the Limerick region. The internationalised business environment Limerick businesses enjoy today is a consequence of the foresight and vision of Des O’Malley,” he continued.
Mr O’Malley was presented with a unique sculpture crafted from bog oak by Joe O’Shea of ‘Banner Bog Oak’. Previous recipients of the President’s Award include Shannon Airport Chair, Rose Hynes (2013), Paddy O’Sullivan (2012) and Denis Brosnan (2011).
