24 March 2015: The Past Presidents of Limerick Chamber were acknowledged at a special reception recently as part of the Chamber’s 200th anniversary celebration programme. The evening reception was attended by 20 of the 26 living Past Presidents, including Michael Harkin, who was President in 1970 and 1971 and Pat Kennedy who served in 1979 and 1980.
Held in the Boardroom of Limerick Chamber, the purpose of the informal reception was to acknowledge the contribution each President made to the Chamber with current president Catherine Duffy presenting Certificates of Appreciation to all attendees.
Dr James Ring, Limerick Chamber CEO, said, “Our 200th anniversary gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our past and appreciate the contribution that so many business people have given to the Chamber voluntarily. We were delighted to have so many attend.”
During the course of the evening, the Past Presidents were joined by some directors of Limerick Chamber to discuss how their expertise and years of experience could be harnessed for the benefit of the future strategic direction of Limerick Chamber. On the night, a decision was made to establish a forum of Past Presidents which will be chaired by Kay McGuinness. The Past Presidents also discussed the future priorities for Limerick Chamber.
“It’s important that we take key learning’s from what has worked in the past as we build a stronger Chamber for the region in the future. It was interesting to see that so many in the room, whether they served four years ago or 40 years ago, agreed that a top priority for Limerick Chamber is to make Limerick a truly living city based on the premise that strong cities drive strong regions,” continued James Ring.
