Keep Business Taxes Down – Limerick Chamber’s message to Local Election Candidates

Limerick Chamber has today (12/5/14) urged Local Election Candidates to ensure that the retention and creation of new jobs for Limerick is their number one priority; the most effective way to do this is to commit to no increases in the cost of doing business.

According to Maria Kelly, Chamber CEO “If Limerick is to maximise the opportunities the newly amalgamated authority can deliver, candidates must pledge to support businesses by retaining the commercial rate at current levels and ensuring water charges do not erode business competitiveness.

“When businesses face uncertainty jobs are at risk. By pledging their commitment to stabilise and secure the charges the local authority levy on businesses, candidates are supporting job security for their constituents.

“Last week Limerick was identified as one of the top ten metropolitan cities in Europe in which to invest. Investment means jobs. We need to build on recent success and our local election candidates have a duty to their constituents to ensure Limerick remains a highly competitive location for businesses to invest and locate. The only way they can deliver this is to continue to reduce taxes on business” concluded Ms. Kelly.
